At Cammeray Children’s Centre, our curriculum encompasses all aspects of the children’s daily experiences. It is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, a national framework designed “to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school” (Australian Government Department of Education [AGDE], 2022, p. 4).
We implement an integrated teaching and learning approach, which thoughtfully combines guided play and learning, intentional teaching by educators, and child-led exploration. This balanced method supports each child’s individual development and encourages a love of learning.
For children in their final year before school, we offer a transition to school program that prepares them for the next stage of their educational journey. This includes a focus on the intentional teaching of literacy and numeracy, as well as supporting the development of social and emotional skills to ensure a confident and positive start to school.
Our learning groups
Children who attend the centre are divided into groups. Each group is named after a flowering plant native to the Sydney area. There is a maximum of 28 children in attendance each day.
The Acacia group is for children from 6 months and who begin the year under 2 years old.
The Banksia group is for children aged 2-3 years.
The Callistemon group is our junior preschool group.
The Waratah group is for children in their year before school.
